I’m sure we all have some type of “big & wild” dream that we want to chase with our entire hearts and soul. And yet, we have no idea where to start or if we even should. I had a big problem with this for years and sometimes still have a hard time with it.
But let’s look at what the Bible has to say about big things…
John 14:12 NKJV
“Most assuredly, I say to you he who believes in me, the works that I do he will do also and greater works than these he will do because I go to my Father.”
Notice how Jesus said “greater works than …” Why? Well, look how Jesus is encouraging His disciples. He’s saying to believe in Him, and partner with Him, so that everything you do in your life will be “Greater than” you could ever imagine.
God never wants us to settle for less in our lives. He has a plan, a purpose for each one of us that is worth fighting for.
Jeremiah 29:11
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”
Father God desires us all to shine and do the impossible with Him. This is so that His glory can impact the people around us and help us come to a deeper realization of who God is and how much He loves us.
Matthew 19:26
“But Jesus looked at them and said to them,’ With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’”
Currently, I’m 19 and a sophomore in college. Truly, I am “living the dream” by majoring in a writing degree and a blog (along with other very great things). I’m happy right here. I’m comfortable. But there are these old dreams that have been tugging on my heart, telling me to pick them up again and start over.
“But that’s impossible,” I always hear myself saying.
Then, a greater voice gently asks me, “Is it?”
Maybe you can relate.
No matter what path you choose in life, never discount those dreams. Even if they seem “distracting” or “impossible.” Destiny could be knocking at your door and all you have to do is answer. We are Sons & Daughters of the Most High God. He leads us into a “higher calling” for His glory (Philippians 3:14 NKJV). A calling that is unique to each of us. The Life God planned for you is Greater Than what you can imagine.
Is there something you are passionate about, but have a hard time working towards? What’s tugging on your heart? What are you constantly “daydreaming” about? What deep desire do you want to reach for, but doubt and fear stop you from taking the next step?
One of my favorite scriptures is Habakkuk 2:2 NKJV:
“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end, it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”
A dream or a “vision” is placed inside of our hearts for a reason. It’s not a mistake because God never makes a mistake. He knows exactly what He is doing for us and the plans that He creates.
A perfect example is what I personally have experienced. All throughout high school, I had this deep passion to get a degree in college. But, there were a lot of complications surrounding that desire. For four years, I went back and forth between “I’m going!” to “Oh, I’m totally not going.”
I literally graduated not knowing what I was going to do next with my life. I had given up on my dreams, I quit writing, I quit dance (former ballerina), I quit tutoring students, I literally quit everything I ever cared about. Why? Because I thought it would be impossible to hold onto any of those dreams and desires as I entered into adulthood.
It’s easy to give up on something that we’re worried will have a bad outcome. But what would happen if we all chose to chase after that “impossible” dream? What if God makes it completely possible? What if He uses that impossible situation to bring such an amazing and “greater than I could ever imagine” outcome?
Like how I’m pursuing a creative writing degree when I wasn’t supposed to go to college at all. Or the fact that I’m a blogger … even though I quit writing. Already, I have books on standby publishing. I’m beyond amazed with this current outcome. But here God has been reminding me of older passions like dance or working with younger students again.
I could easily tell God, “I’m happy with just writing.”
But I doubt those pulls would ever stop. And, what’s actually quite amazing, there are several things lining up for me to pick up where I left off with my old dreams. It is becoming very clear that God is not finished with those areas in my life yet. The same applies to each one of us. We all are young, but we have a lot to live out.
1 Timothy 4:12 NKJV
“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
None of us have to “wait” until we get older to reach for our dreams. In fact, it’s the opposite. God is rooting for us to be an example to others by the way we live. Simply because there is a purpose for the dreams God places in our hearts. Let God do impossible things in your life. Let Him be the “dream come true” in your life. Never stop believing and never stop dreaming.
Now, go write out your dreams or vision. Place it in God’s hands and pray for guidance in your next step. Believe in what Christ can do in your life and watch the impossible things happen!
Let’s Pray
Father God,
Thank you for the plans and purpose you have for my life. I open the door to my heart to you and allow you to inspire me. Holy Spirit, lead and guide me to live a life “greater than” I could ever imagine. I want to live the great life you have planned for me. Do the impossible things in my life, Lord, so that your glory can shine bright.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
