Hi there,

Welcome to The YA Section!

For all those interested in writing, books, theology, poetry, and just all things literature, this blog is for you! The Young Author Section is a space for writers and readers (specifically teens) to learn more about writing, chat with other teen writers, and share their writing with the world. Here at The YA Section, we host short story contests every other month (for teens and adults!), explore helpful tips and tools for writers, recommend good-quality young adult books, occasionally host a teen book club, and more! So whether you’re a teen writer looking for improvement, an adult writer looking for inspiration, or a random debater looking for a blog that piques your interest, feel free to subscribe to The YA Section and join a community of bibliophilic fun-loving writers of all ages!

But before you jump right in, let’s explore who we are, what we stand for, and what we’ll be posting to improve your experience in The YA Section.

Who We Are

If you aren’t already aware, this blog is a continuation of the former Blogger publication known as Controversial Book Club. Created by then fourteen-year-old

, the blog is now written by an ever-changing amount of young Christian teens passionate about writing, reading, and having fun. Want to learn more about our team? Just follow the profiles listed under the heading titled People, and subscribe to this blog! Also, don’t hesitate to share The YA Section with any friend, family member, or anyone you know who will enjoy what we have to offer.

Our Audience

One of The YA Section’s major values is diversity. While this blog is mainly written for teen writers, anyone is free to enjoy what we have to offer. Other than our teen-only book club, writers of all ages have access to everything we post, such as our Debate of the Week, short story contests, informative articles, and more! So whether you’re a young teen writer, a middle-aged blogger, or a retired grandmother with a passion for literature, all are welcome to join us in The Young Author Section.

What We Have to Offer

Something you might want to check out before subscribing to The YA Section is our posts. What kind of posts will we be publishing and will you be interested? Well, here’s our current menu of posts that may pique your interest:

  1. Short story contests — One of this blog’s highlights, our short story contests will be hosted every other month. Each contest will feature a specific genre, guidelines, and a word limit. Anyone is free to join these contests and the winning story will be featured in The YA Section Bookshelf! (We request story submissions as well as volunteer judges!)

    -

  2. Tips & Tools — Previously known as Writing Tips articles, these posts will be uploaded weekly and will include helpful tips and tools for young writers to chew on each week. The posts will include writing advice, helpful resources, ways to get their writing out there, and more.

    -

  3. Book Reviews — Occasionally, we’ll post reviews of either books we think young writers and readers will enjoy or just popular books to let everyone know what we think.

    -

  4. Threads — Every so often, we’ll post discussion threads on the blog much like those featured on our subscribers-only chat. These friendly conversations will be about anything from popular movies and books to writing advice columns and suggestion requests. All are welcome to participate in these threads, but we ask everyone to be respectful.

    -

  5. Devotionals — These posts will be uplifting messages posted weekly to remind our readers of the goodness of our Heavenly Father, where we stand as Christian teen writers, and give our readers hope to fuel them throughout the week.

    -

  6. Recommendations — Our occasional recommendations posts will simply be any young adult books, writers’ resources/websites, or popular Substack blogs we think our readers will find helpful or enjoyable.

    -

All of these post categories are linked on the homepage under the heading Our Posts found in the sidebar (only visible on desktop view or landscape view for mobile devices). So make sure to subscribe so you receive email notifications every time we publish any of these types of posts.
