Hey Everyone! Ken again, yes for the third time in two weeks. I almost forgot this post too, but thankfully checked the schedule in time to write a wonderful and heartfelt post. Okay that mostly just means I had no idea what to write, and I’m going to take your breath away with my sarcasm and pure wittiness. *Hair toss*
I decided to do another post in The Art section, I mean, I did make it so I should probably use it. Anyways, given school, listen, I’m almost done with school, and I promise I’ll try to stop using it as an excuse… So, given that I’ve been finishing up school I haven’t had much creative time. If you remember my other posts in The Art section they have mostly been on my writing scenes that have been inspired by the weather or a painting, or I talked about my paintings. Well, I haven’t painted any new paintings, finished knitting my shawl project, finished my diamond dotz, or written a whole lot in my book. Yes, I do have 4 different projects going on and that is not including my other main book project or my smaller fan fiction I promised to write for some friends a year ago that I still have barely touched.
By the way, for any new subscribers or anyone that’s missed some of my last posts, or just doesn’t want to believe their eyes. Yes, this is how I write, it may not be the most professional but, given that this is a personal blog not a huge work blog or something, I take the time that I have to write to put forward my personality and to write something that I would enjoy reading. I hope you guys are enjoying my posts, and my co-authors, even if they aren’t writing as unorthodoxly as I am, and are having as much fun, if not more, reading them, as I am writing them.
I’ll try to stop stalling and actually write something, let’s see, what to write about. Well, I’ve been trying to work more on my book, so last Saturday, the 3rd, I managed to write about 1000 words in my book. It’s coming along splendidly, if slowly. I have finished drawing my world map, I’m a really bad drawer so it works, but it’s not awesome. If you know anyone who is willing to draw a fantasy world map for free, please let me know. I’ve also drawn up my training grounds map, yes, my book has the standard training monologue, although it happens a little early in the book, since most of the book is focused on the war, the training grounds are there to provide a step into how she got into the world and so the reader knows the main character has actually gotten the proper training and is prepared for what she needs to do. And isn’t just randomly abnormally strong or extra fast or anything like that. Trust me when I say, I don’t like it when a writer just says they’re super strong, etc., without actually giving a reason. If it’s a superpower, that’s one thing, but for them to just know how to do all this and not have any reason for it, that’s another.
Anyone else come up with a wonderful idea for a book, have a great beginning, know how the story goes, but don’t know how to get from the beginning to where the main character needs to be? That’s kind of where I am. I know who the main character is, I sort of know her connection to the world, I know how she learns about this world. But I don’t know how she gets from learning about the world to being the person in charge. Those in this country are searching for her, but why are they searching for her? A prophecy is too much work and too cliche. So, I have to figure out what her parent’s connections to the world are and how that transfers to her, and how she can move to the place she needs to be for the story to progress. Stories are really complicated! I love my idea, the plan is for it to be a trilogy, just in case anyone was wondering, I’m sure you weren’t. Anyways, I know who needs to die in each one. I know the general evil that she has to fight in each one, I promise it’s better in the actual book, but I’m trying not to spoil too much. I know who the majority of the important people are, I may be stressing over names a little too much… I know the general plotline. I just don’t know how to get her from the training area, which she’s in for a while, to her understanding the history of this country and knowing what is needed from her, and for those around her to just accept her, without a prophecy… How much of an important role do her parents need to have at the beginning. (Her parents aren’t around at all at the beginning, she is raised by adoptive parents.) Anyways, if you guys have any ideas for what I could do, I’d love to hear them! I’m getting a little nervous for how I make this happen.
I haven’t been this excited about a book in a long time so that’s awesome. I’m still working on my middle-grade small mystery children’s book, but the problem was I didn’t figure out what the actual mystery was before I started writing it, so now I have to figure out what the mystery is supposed to be, so I can’t actually plant good clues and make it all smooth. Don’t worry, I’m not quite stuck in either of my books yet, I still have quite a lot I can write in my trilogy books, and I have a little I can write in the children’s book, but I really do need to figure out the mystery for my children’s book, before I can really proceed. Once I have that figured out, it should be a breeze.
Well, there you have it. Fairly small post, not much in it, but a quick recap of where I am in my writing journey. I hope you guys enjoyed it!
Thanks for Reading,
Ken
It sounds like you have a ton of things going on, Ken. Oh, the life of a writer. Haha. I guess I belong to the school of thought that you just have to get everything down on the page and well, don't overthink it. If it's too complicated to follow, no one will read it anyway. And don't look at this as the only thing you'll write and your whole future is riding on it. It won't be. You'll write tons of stuff and some of it will zing and some will zag. Write it out and form a plan and get it done and move on to the next project...and the next one...and the next one... There's no limit on how much you can write. I think many writers just take their early work too seriously. Look at how much stuff Stephen King has written. He just gets it done and moves on, time after time. I hope this helps and best wishes, Ken. Thank you for sharing.
Hey K.E.N.- If you wanted an idea, you could have the girl in your book be a rebel princess. Her parents were the rebels against the country or something, and the soldiers learned of the girl's background through some investigative research into her parents(the leaders of the rebellion), and they found that they had a daughter. They learned her age and found a picture from somewhere, and then they went searching for her. They found her and came after her, and she runs away and finds a man(or woman) willing to take her in, who's been watching her all her life to keep an eye on her and keep her safe. S/he tells her about her parents, and then gives her directions, and she goes to try and find her parents, which is where they'll come back in.
Or something. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
I hope that's helpful!
