It sounds like you have a ton of things going on, Ken. Oh, the life of a writer. Haha. I guess I belong to the school of thought that you just have to get everything down on the page and well, don't overthink it. If it's too complicated to follow, no one will read it anyway. And don't look at this as the only thing you'll write and your whole future is riding on it. It won't be. You'll write tons of stuff and some of it will zing and some will zag. Write it out and form a plan and get it done and move on to the next project...and the next one...and the next one... There's no limit on how much you can write. I think many writers just take their early work too seriously. Look at how much stuff Stephen King has written. He just gets it done and moves on, time after time. Hey K.E.N.- If you wanted an idea, you could have the girl in your book be a rebel princess. Her parents were the rebels against the country or something, and the soldiers learned of the girl's background through some investigative research into her parents(the leaders of the rebellion), and they found that they had a daughter. They learned her age and found a picture from somewhere, and then they went searching for her. They found her and came after her, and she runs away and finds a man(or woman) willing to take her in, who's been watching her all her life to keep an eye on her and keep her safe. S/he tells her about her parents, and then gives her directions, and she goes to try and find her parents, which is where they'll come back in.
Or something.That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
Thank you for that idea Allison! It's not going to work super well for my story, but I may take bits and pieces of your idea. And I should probably figure out my government for the country too... the mc doesn't actually know anything of her past, she gets told everything, and bits and pieces start coming back in dreams and random moments etc.
