Jack here with a fun little discussion thread. If you’re new here, these posts are just casual discussions about things like writing, popular literature, recent writing events, and such. Unlike our former debates, discussion threads are very easy-going, chill conversations between young writers and readers.
Today, we’ll be discussing the popular dystopian book and movie franchise The Hunger Games because I recently discovered that Suzanne Collins is writing another Hunger Games book titled Sunrise on the Reaping.
I adored the most recent Hunger Games book, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (prequel to the original trilogy) so I can’t wait for this book. Also, I literally wished she would write a book about Haymitch’s games (if you don’t know what that means….read Hunger Games) so I have high hopes.
Anyway, for this thread, I have a few discussion prompts that you can answer just to stimulate conversation (because I know these threads can be slow)…
How do you feel about The Hunger Games?? Is it good or does it suck? What do you think?
Which book is best?? Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay, or Songbirds and Snakes?
Team Peeta or Team Gale?? If you haven’t read Mockingjay…you may be in for some spoilers (please give spoiler alerts beforehand when discussing this!) I’m Team Gale all the way. ✊
Do you have high hopes for Sunrise on the Reaping??Do you think it’ll be good or is Collins going a little overboard with the whole Hunger Games ordeal?
Have fun with this one! Invite your Hunger Games-obsessed friends and share your opinions. If you haven’t read Hunger Games, ask others what they liked about the series and if they’d recommend it. If you could care less about Hunger Games, at least tell us why you don’t find it intriguing so others can perhaps convince you! ;)
Remember, be respectful and kind. Give spoiler disclaimers. Have a good time.
Thank you in advance for participating!!
(If no one ends up participating…this statement will be awkward…so please participate!! XD)
Suzanne collins has it easy, all she has to do is write a book about Haymitch’s hunger games. And the other quarter quell would be nice. Please. That’s all I want to read
Is this a coincidence? On the air plane I just finished watching the mockingjay movie.
1. It was pretty decent. Though the mockingjay movies were very violent. The books weren’t that violent/ descriptive.
2. The first one
3. Ummm… idk. I did not like Peeta at first I liked Gale better, but then in mockingjay *spoiler alert* something happened in which I did not like Gale. Also in mockingjay before that something happened I did not like Peeta but liked Gale better. So my opinion is mixed.
I haven't read it and don't really plan to for 2 reasonsv
1. I just really don't care for dystopian.
2. I saw parts of the movie when my dad watched it. If the book is about the same thing as the movie — kids killing other kids — then yeah, no. Not reading it. I really don't like that YA books are filled with violence now. I don't want to read violence because I really don't think I can level it with Phillipians 4:8.
so the books aren’t exactly like the movies… but you’d have to read the books to tell the differences. and for the record, most young adult literature doesn’t have violence, just dystopian and thriller and action and such. i stated in a previous post why im fine with violence in books but of course it’s not for everyone and if you don’t like violence, i wouldn’t recommend the hunger games
